Countdown to Round One – Get Game Ready!
Want to hit the ground running on April 26? Here are some simple things players can do at home to prepare.

1. Build Your Fitness Base
Hockey is fast — so getting your legs and lungs ready makes a big difference.
Try this 3x per week:
✔ 10–15 minute light jog
✔ Shuttle runs (set up 3 markers and sprint between them)
✔ 3 rounds of:
• 10 squats
• 10 push-ups (knees are fine!)
• 20-second plank
Short, sharp and simple.
2. Stick Skills at Home
You don’t need a full field to improve your skills!
Try these:
✔ Dribble around cones (or shoes/water bottles!)
✔ Practice tight turns
✔ Push passes against a wall
✔ 60-second non-stop ball control challenge
Parents — this is a great way to keep the kids moving after school
3. Improve Speed & Agility
Hockey is all about quick direction changes.
Simple agility ideas:
• Side shuffles across the yard
• Ladder drills (draw one with chalk!)
• Quick feet on the spot for 30 seconds
• Reaction drills (have someone call left or right)
Make it a challenge between siblings!
4. Hockey Brain Training
Yes — it’s a thing!
Watch a hockey game online and focus on:
• Player positioning
• Passing options
• How teams defend
Understanding the game makes you a smarter player.
